Sergoula Gorge

"Dives, exploration and contact with nature..."

If you are looking for a very summer route, of easy difficulty, in the waters that will cool both you and your family... then Sergoulas river is definitely for you. Also known as Sergoulopotamos or Sergoula Gorge, this particular location has enchanted walkers of all ages. It is located north of Sergoula Beach in the prefecture of Fokida and is 60 kilometers from Patras and 260 kilometers from Athens. Most of the route is in the water, so the ideal time to cross it is summer. To reach it, head to the Antirrio-Itea highway and take the exit for "Sergoula Beach".

At the first intersection we meet, turn left into the tunnel and then take the dirt road on our right. For 400 meters we drive on a passable dirt road until we find an opening to park our car. From there we continue on foot. The path is one-way which means we will return by the same road.

Orientation is easy as we follow the opposite flow of water towards the mountain. The initial altitude is 77 meters and the maximum of the route 147 meters. With an altitude of +69 meters, we are talking about an easy path, although most of it is through water. For this, equip yourself with beach shoes or old sports shoes. Slippers and sandals would not be recommended as they are slippery and there are places that require rock climbing and firm footing. In the first steps we will meet the "crib" which is an ideal spot for photography. Then we go deeper into the canyon and the image of high rocks with running water will remind us of the Always Raining canyon in Karpenisi! We will make small but safe passages in the continuation of the path over rocks, as a result of which we will end up at the first of three points for climbing with a rope.

The second point is not far to meet the big waterfall, a point that is ideal for diving in the cool waters of the river. Take a break at the waterfall and explore what lies above (!) it with the help of the third rope and the iron ladder. Enjoy the quiet between the imposing rocks until you make your way back. An ideal option for the continuation would be a visit to Sergoula Beach to try seafood delicacies as well as a boat trip to the island of Trizonia, the only habitable island in the Corinthian Gulf!
